Channel Layout

Channel Layout, also known as the Channel Mode of the audio or video file, is a way to understand the process of the reproduction of sound. For video files, this is only affecting the audio stream of data and not the video or image stream.

There are two types of values that are available in the Channel Layout information, Mono and Stereo. Mono or monaural sound production can be heard as if there is one Channel and a single location and source for audio streams. Stereophonic sound is sounds coming from a variety of sources and directions. Stereophonic sound is especially clearly heard with headphones or with loudspeakers that are larger.
